We must do it again soon! Nice one Piley.
This one just got me round the gym nicely. I only really lost it once - the Pillow Bride story caught me unawares. It was the 'look at the size of it's head' comment that set me off.
Another fab podcast. Well done, lads.
"look at the size of its head" ?
LMAO !!!
Just playin it now old chap. Very good it sounds too.
Really enjoyed the podcast guys, more so because of the interactive element, hope we can do that or something similar again.
I doubt its true but apparently the Wurzels used to finish their shows with I cant get no satisfaction until they got a writ from the stones refusing them permission to play it. The Wurzels allegedly responded with a writ refusing the stones permission to play I've got a brand new combine harvester at any Stones gigs.
Worse guess of the night was the extremely tenuous fruit !!
And Mondo, why did you have to mention The Exterminator, one of those notorious films I had never seen so stupidly watched it online - after the most gruesome decapiation I ever saw on film it settled down to death and torture by meat mincer, flame thrower and poisoned bullets!
Cheers JM - look forward to a rematch!
ISBW - do you think they might have a nick-name for you down at the gym? like 'the snorter' or something??!! Glad you enjoyed it..
Oh and if you want to see just how big that head really was, have a click here... but don't say I didn't warn you!
Heff - indeed! You should click the link above too!
Nice one Col, thanks! Be sure to let us know what you think!
Ta Ph, and thanks for being a sport on the night too. We'll have to sort out another one. Glad you enjoyed the film too!!! But did you spot the mild mannered jazz man??!
P
More disturbing will be when the wedding night celebrations tape eventually gets 'stolen' and uploaded to the net..the way these things do
The Exterminator - bit of local interest PH, I saw that at The Classic age 14. And don't forget death by electric carving knife for the ol' nutter mutt too ... PS did you spot Stan Getz..
Hey Mondo
I remember The Exterminator showing at the Classic.
It played a few times and once they even had a life size Exterminator photo board in the foyer, flamethrower and all!
Oh yeah, the dog scene that pre-empted that guy being put through the mincer - its indelibly marked on my brain.
Wayne King... makes me smile everytime
Don't know about the Exterminator, but that picture of the Pillow Bride on 'her' wedding day is now indelibly lodged in MY mind...bloody hell....
Mondo - the wedding tape?? *shudders*
Ph - sounds like Mondo has done you a real service there... you'll be having nightmares for weeks. No, really, no need to thank us, all part of the job...
Further - Man, if I coulda had a pound for every time i'd heard that phrase... ;-)
ISBW - I did warn you!!! You can join PhSend with the Podrophenia induced nightmares!

I enjoyed participating in this and of course loved the Pistols related stuff (i've got them all). Very loooose and off the cuff guys. I like the term Effin and Jeffin and was particularly amused that Mondo didn't seem to know who MICK Ronson was LOL (jusT kiding dude) No Johnny Mathis next time though eh ????.
Carl.
I'm hoping that Carl isn't suffering from any music sensitivity because he is completely and utterly wrong about Johnny Mathis. He is fabulous, I'm looking out for that Beatles album.
This was was your best selection of music yet Piley. I absolutely love 'On the Wings of a Nightingale'. Heard that and knew the Macca link straight away!
Yeah thanks for joining in Carl, loved some of your text comments - the Mathis one had us rolling up (as you can no doubt tell!). It was a bit of an experiment, but I thought it worked well - must do it again some time old bean!
Thanks Cocktails, most kind. (PS - check your email!)

I grew up having my ears assaulted by Johnny fuckin' Mathis , i aint buyin' Beatles covers or not LOL !!!! :-).
Carl.
Funny enough I was brought up on him too Carl... and Sinatra, and Nat King Cole, and Matt Monro, and Andy Williams, Perry Como, Dean Martin, Ella Fitzgerald, the Ink Spots, Bing Bleedin Crosby, the list is endless.
As a small child I found it torturous, and not a patch on the Wombles or any of the other decent stuff around in the early 70's. But as i've grown up, I've not only embraced my own music, but theirs too. I genuinly enjoy these artists. I even managed to see Sinatra live a couple of times.
Talking of live, Mathis is probably my first ever gig - before Cyrus even! (that was my first gig on my own). I was taken to see him a couple of times in the 70s at the London Palladium, and I was very non-plussed!
Come on Carl, let 'the Math' into your heart... I'll find the link to that bootleg Mathis does Rock album for you... ;-)

Cyrus Piley? Is that Billy Ray Cyrus?! ;)
This is just proof that people turn into thier parents. I've been kicking against this since i was 10 LOL. Ahhhh you see Piley your going soft , by the time you are 60 Bowie and The Stooges will be in the bin and you will defacto be your Dad (musiclly i mean) LOL. My Mum loved Mathis , Como , Nat King Cole , Vic Damone , Neal Sedaka ,Andy Williams etc etc. I hated it then and i hate it now. Except Nat King Cole who was quality. My Dad loved trad jazz , swing and blues and i have welcomed some of that into my collection , Count Basie , Memphis Slim , Bill Broonzy etc. I admire Paul Anka , Sinatra and Tony Bennett and even in small doeses enjoy some of thier sounds. My Mum strangely never listened to these guy's though. To be honest i don't want to like the other stuff you mentioned. I like Rock N Roll, it was my two fingers to my folks , my peers and any other fucker really. I took it to heart , i aint gonna be no Mathis freak ya hear me ? :-) Too each thier own geez , you old fart ;).
Carl.
P.S. Cocktails , Cyrus, a heavy rock band that played at the school Piley and i attended and Pileys first rock gig (Mathis don't count on that score lol). I had already experienced live ROCK before this !!!!!.
Carl.
Cocktails - even I have my limits y'know!! As Carl point out, this was a rock band who played at out school one evening... I blogged it here if you fancy a look!
Carl - I disagree completely! How can I have turned into my dad when I still play Pistols, Bowie, Damned, the Dolls, MC5 and am still as hungry as ever for new bands?? (all of which my dad would call old rubbish!). I merely matured enough to appreciate a wider variety of music. You'll get there one day chap ;-) (yuk yuk!)

Had a few computer problems again recently so have only just got round to leaving a comment. Now I find it's turned into a debate on Johnny Mathis. Loved the idea of the podcast and most of the tracks but didn't have a clue about either of the links. It's good that you've managed to accept and enjoy a lot of those old singers over the years Piley. Unfortunately time hasn't healed any wounds for me and Nana Mouskouri, which was my mum and dad's particular favourite. Didn't think I'd ever read anything mentioning Johnny Mathis and Cyrus in the same sentence.
Martin - indeed, or the Math-debate as we are calling it round these parts ;-)
I think you can be excused not warming to 'ol Nana, I was never much of a fan!
and yeah, Mathis n Cyrus! Now that's a google search you don't see too often!
Glad you liked the podcast though Martin.
Piley
I too was exposed to (tortured by?) Mathis as a child. If I tell you that my parent's record collection consisted of Johnny Mathis, Des O'Connor, Demis Roussos, Chas and Dave, and Hooked On Classics, it's surprising that I'm as well adjusted as I am.
Interestingly, my father's musical taste has expanded now and, a couple of years ago, I introduced him to the most splendid Modern Jazz Quartet whereupon he promptly bought almost every album they've released!
Additionally, he took me to see Tony Bennett live at The Royal Albert Hall about five years ago. What an astounding evening! Towards the end of the night, Bennett put down his microphone and, accompanied by just a softly-playing piano, his voice absolutely filled the hall without any amplification whatsoever. And you know what? It's still as strong, smooth and rich as ever.
Anyway, where was I? Oh yes - great podcast, sirs. I look forward to the next one with mounting enthusiasm!
Dan - you can't beat a bit of 'The Bennett' can you? Quality voice, and the person who Sinatra thought had the greatest voice of all time - praise indeed.
You can however beat a bit of the O'Connor, the Roussos, the Chas, the Dave and the Hooked On Classics... nasty. I now understand where your angst comes from.
Glad you liked the poddy, and cheers for playing along on the night (although I think me dad got most of your text messages!)
P
I'm there man , i'm there i'm just selective dude :-). Wait till your 60 boy , i tell ya , it's in the post lol (hee hee) .
Carl.
